Underground Elephant CEO Jason Kulpa Named “Most Admired CEO” by San Diego Business Journal

(Original Post June, 2014) Underground Elephant CEO, CEO of San Diego’s fastest growing marketing and lead generation company, Jason Kulpa, wins the award for “Most Admired CEO” by the San Diego Business Journal. This is Jason Kulpa’s second year as a finalist and first as an honoree for the “Most Admired CEO” award.  Kulpa was recognized for his outstanding leadership in the category of private companies.

“Being honored as the most admired CEO in San Diego by the San Diego Business Journal, is a milestone for Underground Elephant,” said Jason Kulpa, Founder, and Underground Elephant CEO.  “This award is further accreditation of our hard work towards creating intrinsic value for all who come into contact with our brand.  I would like to thank the panel of judges for the astute honor of being considered, and my team for winning.  The recognition is a reflection of their energy, and passion and I am very proud to accept on their behalf.”

Underground Elephant CEO Jason Kulpa has been a key player in the dramatic increase of revenue, 3,000%, since the company’s inception in 2008. Kulpa has created over fifty full-time jobs in the past two years, a boost to the San Diego economy. In 2011, he will inject another twenty-five million dollars of revenue and add another twenty positions. Underground Elephant’s diversity is also equally impressive; more than 65% of full-time positions are filled by women, and more than 53% of the overall company census is comprised of minorities. In addition, Kulpa’s philanthropic contributions include The Big Brothers and Big Sister’s organization, Born Free, Save an Elephant Foundation, and the San Diego State Athletic Department.

In just two years, Underground Elephant has become one of the most sought after companies to work for in San Diego attracting top talent all over the world. Kulpa continues to drive the day-to-day operations and has set his sights on achieving the “Best Place to Work” in San Diego award and the “Fastest Growing Private Company” award.

The San Diego Business Journal’s Annual Most Admired Chief Executive Officer award recognizes dynamic business leaders and role models, selected for their achievements and contributions to San Diego companies. Kulpa received the award during the gala held on November 16, 2010 at the Mission Valley Doubletree Hotel in San Diego.

Kulpa was selected by an independent panel of judges who considered multiple nominations for CEOs who consistently demonstrate excellent leadership of their companies, people, industries and communities. An advisory panel considered qualities including leadership, values, vision, company’s financial performance, commitment to quality and diversity, work environment, community contributions, innovation and overcoming adversity.

  1. I’m going to start by saying industry awards can be a dime a dozen with no valid or reliable measures for who deserves one. However, Jason Kulpa’s award for his leadership at Underground Elephant is supported by concrete esults—a 3,000% increase in revenue AND the addition of 50 jobs. Clearly, he knows how to grow a business and better yet, how to create jobs for people (and he has no hesitation about hiring qualified candidates from any group). It sounds like this is a well-deserved award and not another mutual admiration society award that we sometimes see.

  2. I’ve read some background on Jason Kulpa and I don’t know how he does so much while working as CEO for Underground Elephant.
