The Benefits of Coffee in the Workplace

It’s National Coffee Day! Here at Underground Elephant, we cannot be bigger fans the magical drink that is coffee. Not only does Underground Elephant provide hot brew for employees, but there is also local, craft cold brew available. In honor of this holiday, here are a few reasons why drinking a cup of joe today might be worth your while.

Keep The Mind Sharp

According to TIME Magazine, “A 2015 study in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, found that healthy older adults who consistently drank one to two cups of coffee a day were less likely to develop mild cognitive impairment over a three-year period than those who drank none.” We’ve all felt that boost of creativity when the java finally kicks in; a narrower focus on tasks at hand, longer periods of productivity, and even higher chance of collaboration amongst employees.

Boost Activity and Collaboration

Coffee can give your body the energy it needs to tackle the tasks of the day (but should not replace a good night’s sleep). This is especially helpful when working in a job that requires strenuous labor or as motivation to take on walking meetings, which are proven to boost productivity. At Underground Elephant, we love the community that comes with being in one of the top coffee-loving cities. With craft coffee on practically every corner, San Diegans are never short of a caffeine source.

Increase Retention of New Information

When the learning never stops and you need a way to keep up the pace, as well as retain information, coffee can be one of your best friends. According to this Entrepreneur article, “Ongoing study requires focus and attention, which, like willpower, can lessen throughout the day. It has been shown that 200 mg of caffeine can help you identify words and phrases faster than you could do without coffee.”

The results of caffeine as an aid for retaining information proves to be efficient, but again, be sure to set limits. Drinking more than 200-300 milligrams a day will cause your body to feel over caffeinated and can have negative side effects. So long as you remember to drink in moderation, celebrate National Coffee Day and enjoy the increase in productivity.
