On Tuesday, Underground Elephant will be hosting an event in conjunction with the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC), HIRED, and Dev Bootcamp to discuss the findings from the EDC’s Software Development Study. Completed in March and presented at a press conference held at Underground Elephant, the study sought to determine the current software development economy in San Diego and it’s overall economic impact. The study also outlines next steps for maintaining a strong market for software talent and companies in San Diego. The follow-up event at Underground Elephant on November 29th will provide a recap of the study’s result and include a panel discussion around the topic of hiring in the software development industry. Geared towards San Diego tech talent, the event will also provide an opportunity for students and employers in the software development field to network and connect.
Currently, San Diego is ranked 7th in the nation for software development. The Software Development Study found jobs in the software development field to have grown three times faster in the past five years than any other jobs in San Diego. Additionally, employers who were surveyed for the study expect local software jobs to increase by 18% over the next year alone.
Both the study and the event hope to give voice to the San Diego tech community and bring awareness to further develop San Diego’s tech ecosystem.
